Filmed in Southport, North Carolina, the movie adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel Safe Haven opens in theaters tomorrow, fittingly enough on Valentine’s Day, from the director of another Sparks favorite, Lasse Halstrom (Dear John).
Starring Julianne Hough (Rock of Ages, Footloose), Josh Duhamel (Transformers), Cobie Smulders (The Avengers), and David Lyons of NBC’s Revolution, along with Noah Lomax and Raleigh, North Carolina native Mimi Kirkland, Safe Haven was filmed and is set in Southport, NC, which Sparks first discovered while filming A Walk to Remember in the same city in 2002.
North Carolina also previously hosted the Sparks adaptation Nights in Rodanthe, filmed in the village of Rodanthe on Hatteras Island in 2007.
The plot of the romantic thriller Safe Haven involves a young woman with a mysterious past who lands in Southport, where her bond with a widowed father forces her to confront the dark secret that haunts her.
