‘Dirty Dancing’ Remake Could Return to NC Next Spring
While production was officially put on hold last month, it looks like the Dirt Dancing remake could be returning to Lake Lure, North Carolina as early as next spring.
WLOS News 13 reporter Russ Bowen tweeted earlier today (July 10): “Sources close to #dirtydancing remake say shoot likely next spring in Lake Lure”.
The original Dirty Dancing is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year since it initial theatrical release on August 21, 1987.
Starring Patrick Swayze (Ghost, Point Break) and Jennifer Grey (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Red Dawn), the massive box office hit was also filmed in Lake Lure, NC.
A Dirty Dancing remake was first announced in 2011 with Kenny Ortega (High School Musical), who choreographed the original film, attached to direct from a script by Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk. However, on June 8 Lionsgate Films announced that they were postponing the reboot, citing casting reasons.
The remake was originally scheduled to be released in theaters in July of 2013.
Located in Rutherford County, Lake Lure was also previously used in the filming of The Last of the Mohicans (1992), My Fellow Americans (1996), A Breed Apart (1984), and Firestarter (1984).
