NC’s Zach Galifianakis Challenges Will Ferrell in ‘The Campaign’
Wilksboro, NC native Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover, Due Date) co-stars in The Campaign with Will Ferrell (Elf, Anchorman), as two rival North Carolina poiticians in a contest for a seat on the U.S. House of Representatives.
According to the official synopsis, when long-term congressman Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) commits a major public gaffe before an upcoming election, a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs plot to put up a rival candidate and gain influence over their North Carolina district. Their man: naïve Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis), director of the local Tourism Center.
At first, Marty appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but, with the help of his new benefactors’ support, a cutthroat campaign manager and his family’s political connections, he soon becomes a contender who gives the charismatic Cam plenty to worry about.
The cast also includes Dan Aykroyd, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Jack McBrayer, Dylan McDermott, Sarah Baker, and SNL‘s Jason Sudeikis – who is on his way to Wilmington to film We’re the Millers with Jennifer Aniston later this summer.
Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, Austin Powers) is the director.

The Campaign kicks off in theaters on August 10, 2012.
