‘American Idol’ Auditions Coming to Charlotte
Charlotte will be one of seven cities to host auditions for the 12th season of the hit FOX series American Idol.
The open call auditions for Season 12 take place at the Time Warner Cable Arena on June 19 and require pre-registration either June 17 or June 18, according to the North Carolina Film Office.
The last time American Idol held auditions in North Carolina in Greensboro in 2005, three singers from the state were among that season’s Top 10 finalists.
Fromer contestants from North Carolina who made it on the show include Season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino of High Point, Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery of Garner, and Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken of Raleigh.
The Season 5 auditions in Greensboro also introduced the world to Chris Daughtry of McLeansville, who finished fourth; Kellie Pickler of Albemarle, who finished sixth; and Bucky Covington of Rockingham, who came in eighth place that year.
Contestants will need two forms of ID to register, along with a signed release form available from the show’s website. No overnight camping inside or outside the venue will be allowed.
Idol auditions are open to those ages 15 to 28.
The on-camera judges will not be at the Charlotte audition.
